Playing hockey has always been Zechariah’s dream. Playing for the Oshawa General Minors brought that dream to life. “Having parents that could afford the luxury of me continuing to enjoy this dream was and still is a true privilege,” said Zechariah.
He says privileged because the sport of hockey has proven to be expensive. When he played hockey for the Oshawa General Minors, he was truly made aware of how expensive hockey equipment is, especially the hockey sticks. He saw all the sticks breaking during games and how most kids brought another stick just in case, but he also realized that some kids could not necessarily afford to have more than one stick as they are awfully expensive. Zechariah was always the first person to hand over his spare stick to the player/players who did not have another without hesitation. Zechariah started to understand how lucky he was just to have that one extra stick.
Zechariah said that lending a stick was nothing in comparison to the disappointment of not having a stick to play in the next practice, in the next game. Because of this, he promised himself that when the opportunity arose for him to make a difference, he will certainly do so.
Zechariah has now designed a hockey stick similar to the top professional hockey sticks like Bauer and CCM but at a more affordable price. With this opportunity, He will continue to design high-quality hockey equipment for a fraction of the cost, so that all kids who want to play hockey, have the opportunity to do so.
“Dreams should be fostered, and for this reason, I will do all I can to sponsor talented kids who also have dreams of playing hockey,” stated Zechariah.
