In a historic move towards ensuring the safety and success of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Governments of Canada, Mexico, and the United States convened the first High-Level Trilateral Coordination Meeting. This pivotal gathering, attended by key officials from each nation, highlighted the commitment to collaborative security measures in preparation for the globally celebrated sporting event.

The meeting brought together prominent figures, including Dr. Juan Ramón de la Fuente, Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Andrew Giuliani, the Executive Director of the White House Taskforce for the World Cup. With representatives from various government sectors, the three nations reaffirmed their dedication to showcasing the best of North America while strengthening their regional partnership.

During the initial meeting, a three-day Subject Matter Expert Exchange was organized to foster cooperation among government officials, industry leaders, and security professionals. This exchange aimed to address the emerging threats posed by Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and develop effective countermeasures to safeguard the event. Experts engaged in sharing best practices and innovative solutions, enhancing preparedness for potential security challenges.

As part of the trilateral initiative, the countries emphasized the importance of public-private collaboration. An Industry Roundtable featured leading companies from all three nations, providing a platform for dialogue on security measures and strategies. Participants focused on lessons learned and cutting-edge technologies that could be employed to mitigate risks associated with the World Cup’s large-scale gatherings.

“This cooperation reflects our shared commitment to ensuring not only a celebration of sport but also the safety and security of all participants and attendees,” stated a representative from the U.S. Department of State. The efforts undertaken during the meeting signal a proactive approach to regional security and set the stage for future collaborations ahead of the tournament.

The outcomes of this foundational meeting are expected to pave the way for additional strategic initiatives, reinforcing the nations’ joint commitment to a secure and successful 2026 FIFA World Cup. By working closely together, Canada, Mexico, and the United States are determined to demonstrate the strength of their partnership and shared values on the world stage.
