Technology and Art: How Artist and Designer Yuri Kawada Takes Advantage of Tech to Keep the Art Experience Alive

Published on November 03, 2022

Technology, specifically virtual reality and e-commerce, has drastically changed how people experience art. From having to go to museums to having full exhibit experiences virtually, technology has paved the way for art to become more accessible and easily purchasable.

Artists have also benefited from the rise of technology and how it has disrupted the industry. With the advent of digital art, artists can now create pieces that would have been impossible to make using traditional mediums or allow their works to reach a global scale and not just a selected few. This has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for them, and they are only just beginning to scratch the surface of what is possible.

Yuri Kawada, a half-Korean and Japanese interdisciplinary designer with a strong interest in typography, branding, and editorial design, utilizes the trend of technology in art. She pushes the boundaries of art and design and produces artworks that tell a story for a worldwide audience.

An early passion for art

Her love and a keen interest in art started at a young age, with the entire process of creating art and everything involved in it intriguing her creative mind. She then exposed herself to an even deeper understanding of the various types of digital design by attending the Parsons School of Design in New York and furthering her knowledge in advertising by transferring to the University of Southern California.

Her impressive portfolio includes branding, user interface design, print marketing, brand marketing, email marketing, social marketing, and editorial design. She draws inspiration from her diverse cultural background and other creatives that produce artworks that people have never seen before.

To keep up with the times and the ever-changing digital landscape, she maximizes newly developed technologies to find ways to apply them in her work. This is evident in her most recent personal project, a virtual exhibit of her art pieces. Using the metaverse platform Spatial.io, she successfully holds a virtual exhibition highlighting and displaying her unique art pieces. The metaverse allows her audience to access the gallery anytime, anywhere, and on an immersive scale enhanced by VR technology.

In her virtual exhibit, viewers can create avatars and navigate around the virtual space to enjoy her stunning art designs the way anyone would in an actual physical location. Each digital artwork is also provided with a title and a short description, accessible as they click on every piece. These high-tech features will give viewers a traditional exhibit experience right in front of their screens, complete with other features like taking photos or selfies, filming videos, and having virtual reactions.

Aside from her virtual exhibit, Yuri also takes advantage of technology by creating eye-catchy and engaging marketing designs for different brands. Her eye for color and design has created pleasing business markups such as business logos, typography, icons, website interface, store signs, and even packaging slips.

Technology has made it possible for artists like Yuri to create and share their work with a wider audience than ever before. It has also made them produce unique, engaging, and impactful designs for different people.

Experience Yuri Kawada’s virtual exhibition and see how she makes the art experience alive through technology.
