SHIFT LINK is the Newest Hub System That Connects the Real and Virtual Experience

Published on June 07, 2022

SHIFT LINK is the newest hub system that delivers flawless connection of devices and equipment and the services and people that use them.

The modern era is filled with unlimited possibilities of technology that can be expanded thanks to substantial innovations worldwide. The Shift and aircord have joined forces to create SHIFT LINK to offer operation systems and experiences connecting the virtual and real worlds.

The SHIFT LINK systems are designed independently from specific platforms or hardware, allowing stability and flexibility in any environment. Platforms are provided with various environments that suits them like game engines such as Unreal Engine 5 and Unity and international web standards. The devices that can be flexibly supported include but are not limited to sensors, touch panels, displays, and AR, MR, or VR devices.

SHIFT LINK was developed from the aircord and The Shift’s corporate philosophies. aircord’s name was derived from a vision of “being a hub for different things like ‘air’ and connecting different things with technology such as a ‘cord.’” The Shift is a company composed of a different creative collective of global artists and creators with diverse skills. The company has been performing and conducting numerous projects that “shift” concepts and ideas and go beyond the hedge of creativity, design, and technology.

SHIFT LINK is feature-rich that provides flexible support for different digital environments, expands designs through generating digital data fit for the environment, and connects different devices at the same time via remote access worldwide.

It can create flexible interfaces by connecting the real and virtual worlds. It does that by supporting different equipment, the metaverse, and XR devices. It can provide more free-form designs for digital content using NFTs and digital signage that can be designed through generative design systems.

What’s more, SHIFT LINK’s systems will be designed to enable straightforward remote updates and connections to platforms. It can be achieved by building the latest web standard technology and game engines like Unreal Engine 5 and Unity.

In the meantime, SHIFT LINK is used at the JAL SKY MUSEUM, the experiential museum of Japan Airlines. It opened in May 2022 at the Haneda Airport Maintenance Center. Updates and modifications to the display contents and access to the facility management could be made through a simple interface accessible via a web browser.

There will be an available AR glasses demo. It involves a demonstration of an in-car experience using AR glasses. A new in-car experience is made, along with digital content. All these can be updated and adjusted from anywhere. The system will also strive to incorporate spatial recognition technology to get information from the outside environment.

SHIFT LINK will be planning on shifting toward the possibility of the future, connecting more people who wish to experience both virtual and real environments through design and technology. On top of that, they plan to use SHIFT LINK in exhibition facilities by presenting content that mirrors information from virtual spaces into real exhibition spaces. It can also be used for remote maintenance and management of equipment to guarantee optimum operation and exhibition quality.

SHIFT LINK can also be used to create automated content through generative processes. It can produce complicated and context-sensitive content by using not just pre-programmed algorithms but also different data from sensors. It can also produce content with the added value of proof of ownership via NFT collections.

It also plans to offer multi-platform support that prevents interruptions in using a single content base for multi-directional development and exhibiting. Optimal forms can fit different devices, from smartphones and standard displays to AR.
