Researchers from the Faculty of Science at Charles University in Prague developed a robust method for Self-immolation analysis using novel phosphate-based Self-immolation linkers with NMR traceable cyclic intermediates to distinguish Self-immolation from alternative fragmentation pathways and to monitor cargo release in real-time.
“Ultimately, this approach and our linkers will pave the way for the design of novel SI constructs useful in medicine (e.g., antiviral prodrugs – new phosphoramidate ProTide analogs) and materials science (e.g., self-degradable smart polymers),” said researchers.

The Faculty of Science was established in 1920 as the fifth faculty of Charles University. It currently has 29 departments, 3 museums, and a large Botanical Garden where the Study Department and some students’ facilities are located.
Nowadays the faculty is academically and organizationally divided into four sections: biological, geographical, geological, and chemical. In addition to these sections, the faculty has several specialized teaching and research centers, including interdisciplinary institutions such as the Institute for Environmental Studies. All parts of the faculty are active in both teaching and research.
