Protecting the Beat: How Chamupa Chenuka is Reshaping Sri Lanka’s Music Business Through AirXone

Published on May 27, 2025

In a hyper-digital music era where visibility is just a click away, protection and control are often left behind. Enter Chamupa Chenuka—a trailblazer from Sri Lanka whose dual identity as a music business strategist and cybersecurity consultant redefines what it means to be an artist advocate in the 21st century.

Chamupa founded AirXone, a progressive music label and management firm established in 2019 to empower artists with copyright protection, fair publishing practices, and global digital distribution. Today, AirXone has blossomed into one of Sri Lanka’s most influential music business collectives, working with over a hundred artists from Sri Lanka, Europe, and Australia.

The label’s roster reads like a modern-day Sri Lankan hall of fame: from genre-pushing talents like Costa Maarley, Thilina Ruhunage, Radeesh Vandebona, Ayeshmantha, CrowMafia, and Desawana Music, to heritage acts such as The Gypsies, Nalaka Anjana Kumara, and many more. Chamupa’s ability to unite legacy and contemporary voices under one ecosystem is a testament to his far-sighted leadership and cultural fluency.

But AirXone isn’t just a label—it’s a digital-first, protection-focused platform. What sets Chamupa apart is his emphasis on cybersecurity, an area often overlooked in the music industry. Through its expertise, AirXone integrates strong digital defense mechanisms against piracy, data leaks, and copyright violations. Artists under his management don’t just go live—they go safe.

Music deserves more than exposure—it deserves protection,” says Chamupa. “At AirXone, we ensure every artist, songwriter, and label’s content is secured and properly accounted for.

Chamupa played a vital role in shaping Sri Lanka’s digital music landscape through his work at AirXone. Leveraging the experience and insights gained there, he later took the reins as operations lead at Serandip Music Group at the end of 2020, sharpening his skills in digital asset management and business management at scale—with the company managing a roster that included Costa Maarley, MasterD, Drill Team Westnahira, Yuki Navaratne, Ravi Jay, Dilo, and many more emerging talents of that era.

In 2021, he co-founded Bonfire.lk along with partners from Serandip Music Group, leading operations to build one of the country’s first emerging digital distribution platforms. It opened doors for a wider range of artists to join and release their content, including names like Yohani, Chamath Sangeeth, DJMass, Dr. BSKing, Shan Putha, and hundreds more artists and labels at the time.

Chamupa is also a creative in his own right. His recent foray into music production led to the powerful track “නුඹ මා ලයේ සිටියා,” featuring Hasindu Bhanuka, Shavindya Kariyawasam, and Azim Ousman. The song, written and composed by Hasindu Bhanuka, with conceptualization based on Chamupa’s and Hasindu’s vision as part of a project led by Chamupa, proves that he doesn’t just manage the music business, but truly understands the craft from the inside out.

The track showcases his multifaceted involvement in music: from the boardroom to the studio booth. It’s available on YouTube and is quickly gaining traction as a symbol of cross-genre collaboration and production finesse.

Chamupa’s brand, visible at chamupachenuka.com, and his label platform, airxone.co, serve as interactive portals for musicians looking to understand the future of the business. With visually distinctive branding, comprehensive resource sections, and clear service models, both platforms reflect the transparency and integrity he stands for.

As AirXone grows its global network and adapts to new tech landscapes, Chamupa Chenuka continues to lead from the front with an artist’s sensitivity, a strategist’s mind, and a technologist’s expertise.

“The future of music isn’t just louder—it’s smarter,” he says. “And we’re here to make sure it’s secure.”

From launching distribution systems to protecting digital rights and producing impactful tracks, Chamupa is orchestrating more than music—he’s building a safer, more innovative industry. Through AirXone and upcoming personal projects, he’s amplifying talent not just across digital platforms, but also to global audiences.
