Award-winning entrepreneur Elizabeth Tweedale has shaken up the US tech industry by launching a live online coding school for curious and creative kids aged 6-12.
Elizabeth’s expertise in the tech and coding sectors is rooted in her background as an AI creator, computational design specialist in the architectural sector, author, and award-winning entrepreneur. During her time in top-level corporate environments, Elizabeth grew frustrated over the lack of female coders in the industry. According to AnitaB.org, of tech and STEM-based companies that average 10,000 employees, just 27% are women.
Based on Elizabeth’s vision, Coco Coders is well-positioned to generate a seismic impact on the tech, coding, and female coding sectors. Recent KX’s surveys revealed that having coding as a core skill allows for better job opportunities—74 percent—and higher salaries—66 percent.
That same survey also shows that less than 50% of U.S. students ages 16-23 know how to code or have ever studied a single coding language. 35% of those US students that cannot currently code claim lack of educational access is what holds them back from learning.
The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report predicted that 97 million digital jobs will be created globally by 2025. With coding education missing from the US’s educational requirements, we won’t have a prepared workforce to fill even half of those positions.
Elizabeth’s pivot to the U.S. could not be more timely or urgent, and her groundbreaking work in diversity and award-winning coding curriculum is generating widespread attention from industry watchers:
- The Financial Times in the U.K. named Elizabeth one of the 30 most outstanding women in the Tech Industry.
- She achieved the title of Great British Entrepreneur of the Year in 2021.
Coco Coders is an interactive, live, online subscription-based service built around an award-winning curriculum for children aged 6-12. Suitable for children of all abilities, Coco Coders begins with an introductory boot camp that introduces children to the basics of coding. The students are then placed with other learners of a similar experience level and a live instructor who leads students through creative coding projects that focus on teaching key coding concepts like functions, variables, loops, and coordinates.
“Our goal is to inspire the next generation,” Elizabeth said, “to shape a more equitable future.”
