Nuveen, a leading global asset manager with $1.3 trillion in assets under management, has unveiled a new Global Infrastructure Investment Platform designed to harness the growing investor interest in infrastructure assets. This initiative consolidates various specialized teams under unified leadership, strengthening the firm’s position in alternative investments.
The launch reflects Nuveen’s commitment to collaboration and a multi-asset investment approach. The firm reorganized its capabilities into six distinct asset class pillars, aiming to capitalize on the significant need for infrastructure investment, estimated at $94 trillion through 2040. This demand is driven by energy transitions, digital advancements, and the need to replace aging infrastructure in developed markets.
“In recent decades, we have meticulously expanded our alternative investment capabilities,” stated Bill Huffman, CEO of Nuveen. “Today, we are well-positioned to respond to the exceptional client demand for infrastructure exposure in both public and private markets.” He emphasized the firm’s dedication to providing comprehensive infrastructure solutions that cater to a broad spectrum of risk and return preferences.
Jessica Bailey, previously the CEO of Nuveen Green Capital, has been appointed as the Head of Global Infrastructure. In her new role, she is tasked with scaling the platform, now ranked among the top 20 infrastructure managers globally in terms of assets under management. She will report directly to Saira Malik, Nuveen’s Chief Investment Officer.
Nuveen’s extensive experience in infrastructure investment, with $36 billion in AUM across private infrastructure debt, equity, and listed infrastructure, will be leveraged in this newly structured platform. The initiative integrates several specialized teams:
- Nuveen Energy Infrastructure Credit focuses on private credit solutions for energy and power infrastructure, targeting trends in digitalization and electrification across key markets.
- Infrastructure Equity Teams, led by Biff Ourso, manage investments in North American clean energy and other critical infrastructure sectors.
- Digital Infrastructure aims at private equity investments in essential services for the digital economy.
- Nuveen Green Capital, under Alexandra Cooley, specializes in sustainable financing for energy efficiency and renewable projects.
Each team’s investment strategy remains unchanged, benefitting from Nuveen’s rich legacy in infrastructure investment and its status as a significant municipal bond manager.
The Global Infrastructure Investment Platform complements Nuveen’s five other asset class pillars, including a robust Global Real Estate Platform and a Global Natural Capital Platform, which focuses on investments in farmland and timberland.
As Nuveen takes this transformative step, it underscores its ongoing commitment to meeting the evolving needs of investors seeking long-term, impactful infrastructure solutions that are essential for economic growth.
