A newly established logistics center is making a significant impact on the operations of National Guard members serving in Washington, D.C., as part of the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force. Located at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in the southeast section of the city, the Logistics Support Area Lincoln (LSA Lincoln) is designed to streamline logistical support for the over 2,300 Guard members engaged in this important mission.
Air Force Col. Thomas A. Conley, the deputy commander for support assigned to the joint task force overseeing the operation, remarked, “This setup makes everything easier. Workflow makes sense, traffic flow makes sense; you can see every relevant space within one range of vision.” This centralized hub facilitates the distribution of essential supplies such as food and water directly to soldiers and airmen throughout the district.
The LSA Lincoln’s prime location adjacent to major highways ensures quick delivery of crucial items, further enhancing the operational efficiency of the task force. “This is outstanding practice on the home field,” Conley added, noting that the logistics center mirrors the practices used during overseas missions.
In addition to its logistical capabilities, the LSA Lincoln addresses the needs of the personnel involved in the joint task force. “This location ensures they have what they need to accomplish the mission,” Conley stated, emphasizing the importance of support for the troops on the ground.

The logistics center was developed rapidly; within just a week, it transitioned from planning to full operation. Col. Conley highlighted the use of tents, trailers, and large-scale shipping containers, which provides the flexibility to adapt the center’s size according to the shifting demands of the mission.
With over 2,300 National Guard members actively contributing to the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force, their collaboration with the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department remains essential in safeguarding the well-being of residents and visitors in the district. The LSA Lincoln stands as a vital asset in supporting these efforts, ensuring that the mission’s goals are met efficiently and effectively.
