Meet Fr. App, The Hot Social Media App Blowing Up With Gen Zs

Published on April 04, 2023

Meet Fr. App, the London-based social media app founded by two London School of Economics alums. With $3.5 million in funding raised, just weeks after being pitched at their university competition for startups, the company has gone on to build a filter-free social media platform that is revolutionizing the way Gen Z communicates and builds on genuine friendship.

Changing the game, Fr. App does not center around popularity-driven metrics such as followers, views, or likes. Instead, it launches breakthrough features such as Home Screen widget messaging and SEQUEL, which allows users to continue each other’s real-life moments by adding their own take. Unlike pre-existing social media apps, Fr. App has taken away the highly curated and filtered content, in favor of championing authenticity on the Fr. App platform.

Since its release in 2020, Fr. App has captured the attention and hearts of the Gen Z demographic, reportedly skyrocketing to the top of Google Play and Apple‘s App Store following their recent innovative campaigns in London and across UK universities.

Gaining The Attention of Gen Zs

Parallel to their values, Fr. App’s latest marketing campaign has caught the attention of young people all around the city in leaps and bounds, amassing public audiences, social media traction, and popular social media influencers.

Most recently, the Fr. App team began their series of SUPmarket pop-up stores, supermarket-themed lucky dip booths opened at different universities across the UK – University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett University, and on London’s Piccadilly Circus. The pop-up is a grocery shop like no other, stocked with friendship-themed products such as ‘Hope & Humour’ flavored crisps, ‘Lettuce Be Friends Salad’ and ‘Bean Thinking About You’ baked beans, with a surprise hidden inside each item.

With the mission of encouraging people to cultivate friendships that matter, the SUPmarket pop-up booth grasped the attention of thousands of attendees and became a viral sensation on TikTok, as it welcomed several prominent influencers such as Ryan Snellings (2.4 million followers), Bailey Nelson (1.7 million followers), and Abbie Kirkman (207,000 followers) attending with their friends.

In early 2022, Fr. App also launched a promotional event called ‘For Besties’ where they gave out gourmet croissants in Soho, London, for best friends to share. The event was attended by 600 people, including UK TikTok influencers Matthew and Ryan (@matthewandryanuk) who created a TikTok video about their ‘For Besties’ experience and said, “The Fr. App was designed for best friends like us.”

From the vision of two Gen Z’s, Fr. App continues to expand and now is a growing team of 40 members from top universities worldwide with years of extensive experience from leading technology companies, including Snapchat and TikTok. Not just that, with its excellent potential and proven high-value return, Fr. App has championed over four million friendships globally and continues to grow as the social media app of choice for the Gen Z generation, with no filters or masks involved.
