How My Math Got Quicker by Playing This VR Game

Published on December 22, 2022

Over the past year, VR has been quickly gaining popularity around the globe. With newer headsets coming out in 2023, some say that this coming year will be the year that VR goes mainstream. While I am a huge fan of VR, I don’t see it happening anytime soon due to the motion sickness and performance hardware limitations. However, despite these drawbacks, I still throw on my Quest 2 almost every night and enjoy a handful of games. I myself do not get motion sickness, so I have played quite a variety of games, and I do love my first person shooters. But some of the most fun VR games I come across are usually the casual ones. And one in particular I found interesting this past week, was Math World VR on the oculus store.

Math World VR is a VR game that adds a unique mechanic that I’ve personally never seen before: add simple math to the game. Now we aren’t talking about solving complex math equations because that would cause more headaches than fun. Instead, Math World VR adds simple math to each of its mini games to add a challenge that’s not overwhelming for the player. This puts a whole new spin on things, as now while I play, not only am I throwing my ax at a target, but also having to solve 5+3.

Math World VR has 8 mini games that incorporate these simple math challenges at every corner such as basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, as well as: multiples and even/odd numbers. So now instead of slashing random objects, I’m wielding my katana, slashing the even or odd numbers that fly at me. Overall, this game is really cool and one of the very few educational games that I actually have fun playing. After playing for a while, I noticed I was getting faster as I played through the games with agility. It’s crazy to say, but I think this game actually helped improve my quick maths.
