Published on August 24, 2021

In June 2020, a Russian team participated in the annual international Polo Rider Cup for the first time when the best polo players from around the world came face to face in Chantilly Domaine, France. This year12 clubs from different countries competed for the main prize. The Russian team included Mikhail Rodzianko, Gleb Fetisov, and two French players — Simon Zavaleta and Edouard Pan.

The first polo tournament in Chantilly was held by Baron Rothschild in 1920, starting an ongoing tradition. Today, the Polo Club of Chantilly annually hosts the world’s most prestigious polo competition on its picturesque fields. It is also home to the famous racetrack, where the legendary horse races, show jumping competitions, and, of course, polo tournaments take place.

Mikhail Rodzianko, the captain of the Russian polo team, separately thanked Gleb Fetisov, an entrepreneur and winner of the Russian Open Polo Championship, for supporting the participation of the Moscow Polo Club in the prestigious tournament.

Commentators noted that the team debuted on a competitive level, given the significance of the event: “We were convinced that modern polo is becoming an increasingly dynamic and tough sport that requires increasing skill from [its] participants, and Russian teams can compete on par with their international counterparts.”
