GBSH Consult Group proves that growth and impact can coexist, grounded in execution, trust, and long-term client value. The global advisory firm has been ranked among the Financial Times’ Fastest Growing Companies in Africa, earning the top spot in the Management Consulting category and placing 43rd overall across all industries.
Founded in Washington, DC, and later having its African headquarters set up in 2015 in Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa, and now operating in more than 40 countries across five continents, GBSH Consult Group has built the identity of a powerful, forward-thinking partner to institutions facing high-stakes decisions, often in markets where global dynamics meet local realities.
Leadership That Bridges Vision & Delivery
GBSH Consult Group is guided by a leadership team with the depth to influence systems and the discipline to deliver outcomes. His Excellency Professor Dr Ambassador Tal Edgars, the Group Executive Chairman of GBSH Consult Group, is a senior diplomat, strategist, and reformer who has spent over two decades advising presidents, policy architects, and corporate leaders on high-stakes decisions that shape public interest and economic transformation. His work spans the African continent and beyond, from boardrooms in London, university walls in Ivy League halls, to policy chambers in the UN structures. His accolades and work experience are drawn from various public and private spaces in the USA, UK, Canada, France, Russia, and Africa.
Executive Director Morongwa Makgamatho leads the firm’s transformation and performance strategy practice, drawing on more than 20 years of experience across both public and private sectors. She brings a global perspective to local problems, shaped by her time in the U.S. State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program and training with George Washington University. Named one of CEO Magazine’s “Most Influential Women in Business and Government,” she continues to lead from the front, with a style that blends vision with action.
The GBSH Solution: Embedded, Adaptive, Accountable Consulting
GBSH’s portfolio spans national governments, multinationals, SOEs, and high-growth enterprises, with over 600,000 hours of advisory work across policy design, corporate transformation, strategy, economic development, intelligence, and technology.
Rather than replicating the Big Four’s playbook, the advisory has built one of its own, defined by contextual intelligence, lean delivery, and results that matter. A multidisciplinary team of economists, diplomats, engineers, and policy advisors guides GBSH’s work, reinforced by a global network of specialists and former regulators who enable agile, cross-sector execution. GBSH’s internal metrics focus more squarely on impact: how effectively the firm helps institutions build capability, navigate uncertainty, and scale for the future. In recent years, GBSH has delivered on:
- Infrastructure and industrial policy across Africa, ASEAN, BRICs, G20 and the Gulf
- Cross-border ESG frameworks for extractive industries
- Market expansion strategies for telecommunications and fintech firms
- Digital transformation plans for state agencies and listed corporations
- Enterprise and supplier development programs aligned to inclusive growth
Over the last two years alone, GBSH has helped governments and listed organisations craft national ESD roadmaps that move beyond compliance to unlock real economic inclusion in South Africa. It has partnered with four of the continent’s largest mining houses to embed ESG into the core of their operations. In the Gulf, the firm helped structure cross-border renewable energy partnerships that bring private capital into public ambition. And as economies recalibrated post-COVID, GBSH stood alongside trade ministries, building tailored resilience models to not only recover, but adapt. In one of its hallmark projects, the firm guided a national economic ministry through the design and launch of a supplier development initiative that has since created over 15,000 jobs and mobilised millions in local investment.
From Africa to the Gulf, a Trail of Awards
Built on results and refined by experience, GBSH Consult Group has become a benchmark for execution-led consulting recognised by numerous awards. Earlier this year, it was named Business Management Consultancy of the Year at the Corporate LiveWire Global Awards, following a previous win at the South Africa Prestige Awards for its lifecycle management work. In recognition of its work on inclusive development, GBSH has twice been awarded by Accenture’s Gender Mainstreaming Awards, where it was cited for its leadership in promoting gender equity as a large national company.
The firm was also a finalist in the 2024 SDG Awards in the category of Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. In 2022, GBSH was honoured by Finance Monthly for its mergers and acquisitions advisory in South Africa, specifically for its role in a cross-border mining transaction, from due diligence to execution.
But it’s not just accolades that reflect its credibility. GBSH holds verified vendor status with the United Nations (UNGM), World Bank, NATO (NCAGE), and the U.S. Government’s SAM.gov system, all of which are credentials that require rigorous due diligence and signify operational capacity at the highest global standard.
