Filmmaker Sebastian Sommer Moves to Video Games

Published on September 05, 2025

After over a decade of filmmaking, Sebastian Sommer is closing one chapter and opening another, this time in the world of video games. Known for his dreamlike visuals and introspective storytelling, Sommer made waves this year with his feature film Dragon. A fantasy epic made with AI visuals to create an expansive world that became a viral sensation.

“I’ve said what I wanted to say in film,” Sommer says. “It’s time for something new.” Sommer won’t say much about the game other than the title “Eclipse Town” but he’s clear about the direction: something more immersive, more interactive.

“Eclipse Town is influenced by David Lynch, The Twilight Zone, early survival horror games, and the nostalgic RPGs that I grew up with,” he says. “I want to use gaming to explore the afterlife, frequencies, and consciousness.”

This transition isn’t just creative, it’s total. Sommer describes this as a retirement from filmmaking. Whether or not this is the start of a new career or a singular entity, one thing is clear: Sommer isn’t just moving on from film. He’s evolving into something else entirely.
