After making her long-awaited return with “MY BODY IS GOD ON ACID,” Fei-Fei continues her journey with her new acid techno single, “HUMAN MACHINE,” out August 25th on PUSSY POP. Oozing pulsating drumwork and a scintillating cyborg ambiance, “HUMAN MACHINE” marks Fei-Fei’s second single released since relaunching the electronic alias.
With a reverberating vocal line in tow, Fei-Fei warps cerebrums with a slew of distorted synth waves, knocking basslines, and soundscapes plucked straight from a futuristic otherworld. A punchy, semi-dark record for the ages, Fei-Fei’s latest release witnesses the femme heavyweight take an elusive deep dive into her hallucinatory sound design and layering. From start to finish, “HUMAN MACHINE” encompasses Fei-Fei’s incomparable talent and skill into one spellbound cut that’s bound to drive any dance floor, anywhere.
Like a phoenix rising, Fei-Fei’s revival of her iconic alias has been nothing short of incredible. Previously creating official remixes for BANKS, Tiesto, and Basement Jaxx, Fei-Fei has rightfully garnered support from DJ Mag, LA Weekly, NYLON, Bloomberg, and countless other notable publications. Now, Fei-Fei embarks on an exciting voyage with plenty of new music and new endeavors for herself and her PUSSY POP imprint on the horizon.
“HUMAN MACHINE” is a femme techno bop. I hope she will empower you and transport you to the cybernetic meadow that awaits. The song is about a girl who melds with an artificially intelligent being in order to save the earth from dying. It’s a fantasy of a future where we return to the essence of life: mammals and computers live together in mutuality, programming harmony, free of our labors, joined back into nature and watched over by the machines of loving grace. With everything in chaos right now—our rights stripped from our bodies, the earth burning slowly to death, countries at war, our minds rapidly melding with technology, social media, AI and machine learning—we need a new reality. She’s a sci-fi slut for reforestation and she’s here to bring you to the future. Inspired by James Lovelock’s Novacene RIP.
Note from Fei-Fei (7/27): “James Lovelock and his books profoundly inspired me. I was so excited to send him the song and tell him myself, but I’m one day too late. He passed away today on his 103rd birthday. I’m sending the song to him now by sharing this song with the world. RIP.”
L.A.’s Fei-Fei is a beacon of strength for female, queer, BIPOC and non-binary artists and is somewhat of a musical renaissance woman. She manifests “marching to the beat of your own drum” with her genre-bending productions, and has even received death threats for defying some fans’ expectations in her DJ sets, notably Armin Van Buuren’s ASOT 500. With releases for Toolroom, Vandit and Armada, to her official remixes for BANKS, Basement Jaxx, K.Flay & Tiesto, her debut album Pretty Girls Don’t Hallucinate reaching #13 on iTunes, to her grunge-pop band THRILL YOU KILL YOU, Fei-Fei champions the spirit of independence with the first single off her new EP coming this fall. HUMAN MACHINE drops August 25 on PUSSY POP.
