Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband, Matthew Broderick, were swarmed by fans on the wharf in Sag Harbor, NY, after stepping out of their car to enter the Bay Street Theater Gala. The couple were on their way to accept Bay Street Theater’s Lifetime Achievement Awards for their decades-long careers in theater. Broderick holds the record for the youngest Tony Award winner as Best Featured Actor in a Play, an honor he received in 1983. Parker has been nominated for two Tony Awards for her work on Broadway.
Julie Andrews thanked the Bay Street audience via video while her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton, son-in-law Steve Hamilton and granddaughter, actress Hope Hamilton cheered from their seats. Philanthropist and real estate power broker Carol Konner’s son presented an award to her. Bay Street Artistic Director, Scott Schwartz, brought his wife, actress Julia Mytyko and their children, and Scott’s father, Stephen Schwartz, appeared in the photo video montage of Bay Street patrons. Owner of the legendary Palace Theater and Bay Street Board Member, Stewart F. Lane, was accompanied by his wife, BroadwayHD founder, Bonnie Comley, and their sons, performers Lenny and Frankie Lane.
Patrons toured the backstage of the theater and took selfies with the autograph walls of famous actors, in dressing rooms with lighted makeup tables and scenic and design departments, and then enjoyed cocktails on the stage. The event was a celebration of the deep roots of the Bay Street Theater and its family of patron supporters.
Isaac Mizrahi served as an auctioneer for prizes, including dinner with Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Donna Karan, and Mizrahi himself. Bay Street’s Executive Director, Tracy Mitchell, was a co-auctioneer bringing laughs and drama to the evening. Many of The Bay Street Theater Board of Trustees, which includes Steven Todrys (Chair), Patty Baker, Joy Behar, Luigi Caiola, David Fink, John Frawley, Dan Gasby, Wendy Harrison Hashmall, Richard Kind, Carol Konner, Stewart F. Lane, Riki Kane Larimer, Tracy A. Mitchell, Mala Sander, Flora Schnall, Scott Schwartz, Eric Segal, Christine Wächter-Campbell, and Ian Ziskin were on hand bidding and leading the donations in the paddle raise.
The sold-out benefit raised funds for Bay Street’s vital programs and initiatives. Bay Street Theater is a year-round, not-for-profit professional theater and community cultural center that endeavors to innovate, educate, and entertain a diverse community through the practice of the performing arts. It serves as a social and cultural gathering place, an educational resource, and a home for a community of artists.
