Cargill Expands Regenerative Farming Project to Europe and Adds Nine New States Across the U.S.

Cargill RegenConnectTM is building on two years of success in North America

Published on May 26, 2023

Cargill is using its advantageous position in the supply chain to lead the way with its award-winning regenerative agriculture initiative in Europe. This program will provide financial incentives for farmers in Germany, Poland, Romania, and France to implement climate-friendly farming methods.

Cargill RegenConnectTM, which has been successful in North America for two years, is expanding its program to include nine new states: North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Colorado, Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Texas. This expansion will bring the total number of states to 24. The program will now offer higher payments to U.S. farmers, cover more commodities (including cotton), and make it easier for farmers to enroll through their mobile devices.

Cargill’s RegenConnect™ has been recognized by the prestigious 2023 Edison Awards™ for its innovative approach to creating a more resilient and secure food system. This expansion is a testament to Cargill’s commitment to helping farmers adopt sustainable agricultural practices across its global supply chain. Cargill believes that change begins at the farm, and the positive feedback received from growers and customers further validates the effectiveness of RegenConnect™.

Cargill and other companies are supporting farmers worldwide to adopt sustainable practices, making it more economically feasible. This helps reduce emissions, improve water quality and usage, increase yields, and make the soil more resilient for the next generation. Cargill’s vision is to make regenerative agriculture a common practice in their global supply chain, allowing farmers to produce food sustainably while also increasing their profitability and resilience. According to Chantelle Donahue, Cargill’s North American Agriculture Supply Chain Vice President, this is the way to include agriculture in the climate solution.

The success of Cargill RegenConnect shows that making sustainable and regenerative agriculture profitable for farmers can help the adoption of nature-positive production practices. This approach will help reduce emissions in Cargill’s supply chain and impact all areas of their business, from sourcing wheat and corn for their starches and sweeteners to growing rapeseed oil for their salmon feed.

Cargill RegenConnectTM is an optional program for farmers that promotes regenerative agriculture through market-based incentives. By choosing from a variety of practices that suit their unique growing conditions, farmers can improve soil health and reduce carbon emissions from the agriculture supply chain. These practices include planting cover crops and using reduced- or no-till farming, which help to store carbon in the soil and improve water quality. The program offers technical support and resources to ensure success, as well as an environmental market opportunity for participants to connect with major companies seeking to reduce their environmental impact and support regenerative agriculture.

Eligible farmers in North America are invited to enroll now through Sept. 15 by visiting Cargill Regenerative Ag Program at cargillag.com.

Eligible farmers in participating EU countries are invited to enroll beginning June 1 through July 15, 2023, at regenconnect.cargill.com.
