Best Actor Race Heats Up Between Adrien Brody and Timothee Chalamet

Published on February 25, 2025

The Oscars will take place this Sunday, March 2nd in LA with the award show airing on ABC starting at 7pm EST hosted by Conan O’Brien.

One of the coveted Academy Awards that is being awarded on Sunday evening is the Best Actor award. A Best Actor or Actress Oscar is a crowning achievement for any film actor, so you can be sure all the nominees are hoping they are awarded the honor. The Best Actor award is very interesting this year because it looks to be a two-actor race between Adrien Brody (The Brutalist) and Timothee Chalamet (A Complete Unknown).

According to a popular online sportsbook Adrien Brody is the favorite with odds of -225, while Timothee Chalamet is the top contender with odds of +140. Ralph Finnes (Conclave), Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice) and Colman Domingo (Sing Sing) are the other nominees. Brody vs Chalamet

Let’s dig a little deeper on the Adrien Brody vs Timothee Chalamet battle that it looks like this Oscar is coming down to.

Awards This Season

Adrien Brody won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama, the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Actor.

Brody looked like he may be on his way to sweeping the high profile awards this award season, but then one week before the Oscars, Timothee Chalamet was finally awarded a major award with his SAG Awards Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading role win this past Sunday.

Chalamet’s SAG Awards win has shaken up the Oscars odds a bit with it no longer considered a foregone conclusion that Adrien Brody will complete his award season with the Academy Award.

Career Accomplishments

Adrien Brody already has a Best Actor Oscar for his leading role in The Pianist at the 75th Academy Awards back in 2003. It’s been 12 years since Brody had a leading role that was worthy of award season, but at 51 years old this is not his first rodeo.

Timothee Chalamet may be only 29 years old, but he’s already a very accomplished actor and has the hardware to prove it. Chalamet was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar once before, back in 2018 for his role in Call Me By Your Name. Many fans felt he deserved the Oscar for that performance. Chalamet has also been nominated for Golden Globe four times now (Call Me By Your Name, Beautiful Boy, Wonka, A Complete Unknown). Winning the SAG Award on Sunday was his first major win, but he did win awards from other associations for Call Me By Your Name, Beautiful Boy, and Little Women.

It will be interesting to see which actor gets the nod this Sunday and either establishes themselves as a legend (Brody’s second Oscar) or a future legend in the industry (Chalamet’s first).
