Crowdfunding platform Crowdpac announced that Rent Strike 2020 has chosen Crowdpac to host its campaign to force governors across the United States freeze rent, mortgage, and utility bill collections in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Rent Strike 2020 is taking advantage of Crowdpac’s newly launched petition feature. To date two million Americans have signed Rent Strike 2020’s petition.
Following mass layoffs and furloughs brought on by stay at home orders and social distancing restrictions imposed in response to the coronavirus, millions of Americans find themselves unable to pay rent, mortgages, and utilities. Rent Strike 2020 is demanding that real estate corporations and investors grant immediate relief to Americans or face a mass rent strike in the coming weeks.
“Americans are hurting, and we need Rent Strike 2020 to be a huge success. We chose to organize on Crowdpac because it has a great set of tools and features to make sure we meet our goals,” said Supreet Kaur, Organizing Director of Rent Strike 2020. “In addition, Crowdpac will not share, sell, or abuse the data of our participants, and that important to us.”
Unlike other online petition services, Crowdpac‘s petition feature allows organizers to collect signatures in support of a cause, while at the same time raising critical funds. Rent Strike 2020 will use funds raised on Crowdpac to support direct action campaigns that participants could take to follow through on Rent Strike 2020’s nationwide demands.”
