Childhood and youth
Natalia Novikova, better known by her stage name Nanoviola (a combination of her first name and viola), was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. From age 6, she started playing the viola and piano professionally. At that time, the Russian classical music school represented a strict discipline. She made inroads successfully, even giving several concerts at an early age.
When she turned 18, she moved to Germany to continue her studies with Professor Felix Schwartz and Ester van Stralen.
Studies and start in electronic music
During her student period in Germany, after touring the country and visiting the capital of techno, Berlin, Natalia felt strongly attracted to electronic music. This interest in electronic music was consolidated when she met Ableton, where she discovered that she could combine her talent in classical music with techno and EDM. Thus, she began the development of electronic tracks where she inserted emotive viola melodies.
After graduating from the University of Music, Natalia performed in Germany’s most prominent concert halls and theaters. In this way, she consolidated her knowledge and experience until she got her Live Act, where she performs as a DJ and is commonly seen with her viola creating powerful beat drops that make her stand out above the new generation of EDM DJs.
Nanoviola, the “Russian Avicii”
Nanoviola has specialized in producing Bigroom MainStage, Techno, and Future Rave, in which she adds viola notes to honor her classical musical education. Nanoviola has also released on some of the most important labels in the industry, such as Hardwells Label “Revealed,” which makes her a rising star in the world of techno and future rave.
Thanks to Nanoviola’s unique blend of classical music and EDM, two seemingly different genres, her success has captured worldwide attention and earned her recognition in the music industry to such an extent that many are already calling her the “Russian Avicii.”
