Essential Gears to Survive Zombie Apocalypse

Published on October 17, 2022

Have you been watching the news? If a zombie apocalypse hasn’t happened yet, there’s a good chance it’s starting soon. We’ve survived the Coronavirus, murder hornets, and student loan debt. However, a zombie apocalypse might require additional skills for survival. Luckily, you’re reading a how-to, and you’re well on your way to being the last human standing.

There are a few steps to surviving this particular apocalypse:

  1. You’ll need to avoid getting bitten or eaten. It’s just best to avoid all contaminated individuals.
  2. You’ll need to eat and sleep safely.
  3. Perhaps the primary goal: you’ll need to find another survivor. They’ll likely have extra supplies, and you can take turns sleeping until the zombies have to go back to their 9 to 5.

There are a few things you’ll need to bring with you to survive this crisis. However, it’s not time to pack yet. First, make sure you get out of the city before evacuation. Let’s be honest, all those cars that waited until the last minute? They’re goners. Don’t be a goner. On your way out of the city, grab the essential zombie survival tools we have listed for you (because you’re not going to find them where you’re going).

1. Protection

While sprinting through the forest, you’ll want something to stop random zombies. Of course, you’re likely to leave them behind if you’re the first out of town, but they might make it out to you all the same.

In that case, we recommend a firearm. If you’ve already got one, use the gun you have. If not, grab a shotgun or a pistol and extra ammo. A firearm will keep any zombies out of biting range, which is pretty handy. The key to using a gun is to stay out of zombie-infested zones, or you’ll use all your ammo quickly.

2. Food & Water

The zombies have everything they need to survive if you slow down. The key to moving quickly is a well-maintained body. Pack some nonperishable items such as freeze-dried food that you can mix with water. Some people recommend canned goods, but we don’t recommend them unless you want to rattle through the woods. A small water purifying device is also essential, as you can only go a few days without a healthy drink. Ration your food and follow a water source to stay healthy, or you’re likely to succumb to the horde.

3. Zombie Proof Shelter

A hungry zombie is arguably the worst thing to wake up to in the morning. You might feel safe in an abandoned building or perhaps in a dark cave. However, we recommend sleeping out of reach. There’s always a chance that if you can find your way into a building, a zombie can too. For this reason, we recommend packing a reasonable length of rope or a hammock that you can hang high in the trees. If you’re not proficient in setting up a hammock, just tie yourself to the top of the tree with rope. Cross your fingers that the zombies will move on even if they can smell you.

4. Transportation

You’ll likely need to cover large distances during a zombie apocalypse quickly. We recommend you grab a folding bicycle. You can carry them around more manageably than the standard model, and they’ll allow you to move faster with less effort. It’s also a bonus that they don’t require gas because there won’t be much of that on the road. A folding mountain bike will be your best option if you’ve got the finances for it. A mountain bike will enable you to take tricky mountain trails instead of staying on paved roads where hungry zombies may wander.

5. Communication

After a couple of days wandering through the empty wilderness, you’ll wish you could find even one other person with whom to share the misery. However, if you haven’t prepared for this scenario, you could be 100 yards away from a survivor camp and never even know it. They’ll likely be just as quiet as you if they’ve survived. So, grab yourself a shortwave radio or at least a pair of binoculars to help you find other survivors. Be sure to announce your arrival and respect their suspicion or face the consequences.
